What can I expect?
What is a worship service like?
In a word: simple. In our desire to follow the Bible, there are a few things which may seem unusual to someone unfamiliar with the churches of Christ. The first thing you might notice is that we have no piano, organ, or guitar, nor do we have a place for a choir. Our singing is a cappella and congregational. As a visitor, you are encouraged to sing with us, but it is not required.
The Lord’s Supper
We partake of the Lord’s Supper, also called Communion, every Sunday morning. As the trays are passed, you are free to partake, but it is not required. If you choose to partake, you may take and eat one of the wafers when that tray is passed. Then take one of the small cups and drink the grape juice when that tray is passed. After you drink it, you may place the cup back into the tray.
The collection
Directly following the Lord’s Supper on Sunday morning, a collection tray is passed. You as a visitor will not be asked to put anything into it.
The invitation song
Before the sermon, the invitation song will be announced. This is the song that is to be sung right after the sermon. Simply mark the song in the hymnal with the bookmark to have it ready as the sermon comes to a close.
How long is the service?
The Bible classes on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening last about 45 minutes. Sunday morning worship typically lasts about an hour. After the class on Wednesday evening, there is a short devotional which will end at around 8:00pm.
What about my kids?
During the Bible studies on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, we split up the children by age (0–18) to go into their various classes with our teachers. If you would prefer that your kids sit with you during class, that is okay. During worship, we believe the best way for children to learn to honor God is for their parents to teach them how to act in worship. We also have a nursery equipped with a speaker so you can still follow the service if you would feel more comfortable there.
